           BIO

The Histrioniks  are Cat and Larry Levy from Baltimore, Maryland. A blend of the dramatic and philosophical, the duo began working together in the summer of 2004. In his past life, Larry was Helmet Walker, drummer for the instro-surf band, The Swiv-o-matics, while Cat, formerly Cat Bikini, sang the infamous version of The Who’s “Boris The Spider” and danced at their live shows. Dave Powers guitarist from The Swiv-o-matics has joined them on bass for “About This Girl” and “Thin”.

“Homesick From The Grave” on CatErratic Records (their own mock label) features 11 original compositions. The songs are deeply personal, dark and foreboding and subscribe to a fairly simple formula, guitar and vocals. The compositions are somewhat folkish but are not aimed at any particular reference points. Their music does cover a variety of styles and really defies classification other than acoustic or adult alternative. The personal touch is made complete by all original artwork by Cat Levy.

“About This Girl” is the second CD offering from The Histrioniks on CatErratic Records. A complete turnabout, The Histrioniks have changed course, added Dave Powers on bass, and clearly rock out while still maintaining some of the darkness from their debut CD. Again, while not sounding quite like anyone they do have elements of The Who, The B-52’s, Blondie, The Cocktail Slippers, The Donnas and Garbage in their style. An eclectic mix with strong female vocals, The Histrioniks are a band to be reckoned with. Artwork by Cat Levy.

“Thin” is The Histrioniks third offering and was recorded with a more garage, indie type sensibility. It is more minimal and nestles itself somewhere between the acoustic darkness of “Homesick” and the power pop of “About This Girl”. Recorded by Larry Levy and engineered by Mike Potter, “Thin” is where The Histrioniks define themselves at this point. Artwork by Cat and graphics by Nikie Monteleone complete the statement in black and white with just a line of red, a bold reminder that The Histrioniks ROCK!
